Guidelines for the Use of Quincy Bog Natural Area
General UseTo protect the Quincy Bog Natural Area (QBNA) and enhance the experience of other visitors, members of the public are asked to observe the following guidelines when visiting the QBNA. Foot traffic on marked trails is welcome, but bicycles, horses, trail bikes, snowmobiles and other motorized vehicles are prohibited. Foot traffic off marked trails is strongly discouraged. Please do not walk on the beaver dams. It is not safe to do so and the dams area an important natural feature of the QBNA. Please do not disturb or collect plants, animals, rocks, or other natural features. Canoeing and kayaking are not permitted for individuals or groups engaged in recreation or outdoor education. There are no appropriate access points to the pond and the protection of sensitive habitats is a high priority at the QBNA. Hunting, fishing, trapping, camping, lighting fires, and littering are prohibited. Dogs must be under control at all times. Please remove dog waste from trails. Children must be adequately supervised by adults to ensure that they observe visitor guidelines. Researchers, Naturalists, and Organized GroupsBecause the uses and activities described below are potentially high impact, the following users are asked to obtain permission prior to arriving at QBNA.*
Organized groups using the QBNA are requested to provide the Board of Directors of Rumney Ecological Systems a list of the names and mailing addresses of group leaders and all adult participants.* Please give credit to Rumney Ecological Systems / Quincy Bog Natural Area in program descriptions, research, reports, etc. Please send the Board of Directors of Rumney Ecological Systems a copy of any research reports, species lists, project summaries, etc. that utilize data or other information obtained from Quincy Bog.* For-profit organizations charging fees to participants for programs at the QBNA are requested to make a donation to the Friends of Quincy Bog for the purpose of supporting the operational costs and educational programs of QBNA. In keeping with the purpose of Rumney Ecological Systems as stated in its Bylaws, the Board of Directors would like to provide the general public access to the Quincy Bog Natural Area (QBNA) “for study, research, and education in natural history and for recreation appropriate to a natural area” while ensuring that the natural area is preserved and protected.
